Edmodo in education

Edmodo is a very powerful learning tool for students and teachers. The tool itself allows a professor/teacher to take over the classroom by assigning polls, homework, and tests. I think this is a tool that is designed for providing increased engagements between students and teachers. Ideally I think this would be more suitable for an 11th grade technology classroom. This is the grade I chose in my edmodo group design. I think that teachers since they are limited to 45 minutes, they will be able to appreciate Edmodo because of the tools it provides for grading and assignment creation. The thing that I liked more about edmodo is the ability to create polls, and upload custom content. I think that if you do not find what you are looking for in edmodo you can always go back and add your own things. Also another powerful feature it has is the way you can set up notification, this can serve as a reminder to your students of when things are due so they do not forget. My second favorite feature of edmodo is the test creation tool, it is very similar to that of Google forms but it feels more professional and ideal for the classroom. Edmodo allows you to create multiple choice, true or false, or short answer. This is imperative because you can be creative with your tests and be able to make your students critical thinking so they can think outside the box while answering the tests. The poll feature is also a very good thing to have because it increases the level of engagement and participation in the classroom. This provides the perfect solution for 11th grade and beyond because teachers need to be more creative in their assignments to keep the level of interest high in the classroom. A teacher has many challenges, but the main challenge is time management. We used to have 90-minute lectures, and with this time we had room for trial and error. With classroom lessons being reduced to 45 minutes a teacher must use technology in order to save time in the classroom. Edmodo really does its job when it comes to saving the teachers time, overall I believe every teacher should use edmodo because it will make your lessons more efficient as well as students learning at a faster rate. It is a challenge to maintain a classroom engaged but overall Edmodo if used correctly will keep your classroom alive and learning.

  1. I agree that this website would promote engagement and collaboration between teachers and students. I am a third grade teacher and I think that this website would be simple enough for my students to be able to use it. I love the organization of the website and how easy it is to use.

  2. Edna,
I can see how you would benefit from Edmodo in the grade level that you have, because of the time that you have the students in the classroom. That challenge of time that is allotted for you to deliver the lessons to your students is supplemented by allowing you to provide the students the time get the material that they need after they leave the class. Great ideas...thank you for sharing with us.

  3. Edna,
I agree with 100% that a teacher's hardest job is definitely management. Finding activities and assessments for the TEKS has been the easy part for me. Managing my time and the classroom has definitely been the hard part. I agree with you that teachers must find ways to keep students interested in order for them to learn. Per and pencil no longer work if we want students to be successful in learning.

  4. Hi Edna, I also liked the test creation tool. It makes creating a quiz so easy and the fact that it is automatically graded is an added bonus. Keeping up with grades on top of everything else we have to do as teachers becomes overwhelming at times. I am glad you brought up how this tool will help teachers with the time management piece of our lessons.

  5. Edna,
I was really impressed with google drive and all the features it offered for the class but Edmodo includes the same ones in a place students can access as well as parents. I really liked the group code and the notification setting as you said.

  6. Edna,

I agree with you that as teachers, our time is very limited. We have so much paperwork to do, and for us to be able to create assignments and quizzes through Edmodo that will even grade them, makes our life so much easier. Specially for the high school and middle school teachers that have hundreds of students per grade level.
